What all parents should know

See ‘For Parents’ link under ‘School Policies’ for more details.

E-mailing list

All parents must supply the school with a working email address. They will be automatically added to the school mailing list and receive the children’s reports, newsletters, updates and information about the school and their children.

Fee Structure

The fees structure of the school will be supplied upon request. See Contact Us.

All enquiries concerning your accounts should be addressed to the Director of the school, Mr. Ritesh Manake,

tel: +91 7832978275, email: director@isps.edu.in  or accounts@isps.edu.in

Applying for a Student Visa

All children must apply for a Student Visa. Any other type of visa will not be accepted by the local Foreigners Registration Office. Students who arrive with a tourist visa will have to leave India after six months.

Normally a letter from the school is required to get a student visa. Please email at office@isps.edu.in. The letter will be E-mailed to you. Please remember to state:

  •  The name and surname of your child

  •  The date and place of birth of your child

  •  The passport number and nationality of your child

  •  Your Email ID

  •  Your address

Phone Calls

As a rule parents should only phone their children on weekends.  As a rule parents should call no more than once every week and never during school hours. See ‘For Parents’.

If your child is attending the school for the first time,  phoning earlier will make it more difficult for your child to settle into the new lifestyle.

For information related with your ward, you can contact, The Counselor or Principal.

Parcels

We recommend that you do not send your child more than four parcels a year, plus one for their birthday.  Parents are asked to exercise restraint regarding the size of the parcels and the number of sweets they put inside them.

Dress Code

At the weekend children are allowed to wear their own clothes.  However, whatever is worn should conform to standards of decency as defined by Her Supreme Holiness Shri Mataji. Any form of dress considered provocative, indecent or slavish to fashion is not allowed.

Girls should not:

  •  Wear make-up

  •  Wear more than one ear-ring in each ear

  •  Pierce their body other than in their ears

  •  Dye their hair

  •  Wear jeans and trousers

  •  Wear black outfits

 Boys should not:

  • Pierce any part of the body

  • Dye their hair

  • Wear black outfits

  • Wear jeans

Prohibited  Items

Children are not allowed to bring the following items to school:

  •  Game boys and other electronic games

  •  Electronic calculators

  •  DVD machines

  •  Sheath knives, large penknives and other dangerous objects

  •  Laser pointers

  •  Tape-recorders and CD players for juniors

  •  Vulgar music i.e. without good vibrations

  •  Violent or lewd videos and video games.  Please view everything before sending it.  It is not uncommon for children to receive inappropriate videos from their parents.

 Money

All children at I.S.P.S. receive pocket money weekly, which they can use at the school tuck shop.  In addition, once a month they are allowed to visit the shops outside the school gates, which offer more variety. Seniors receive Rs.30 and juniors Rs. 25 a week.  On top of this, children are collectively given an allowance to organize ‘dorm parties’.

Many parents like to give their children extra cash for outings, emergencies and other occasions.  We have no objection to this on the following conditions:

1.     The money should be handed in to the school accountant at the beginning of the year.

2.     Parents should inform the school in writing how much money they have given to their children.

3.     The amount of money they can access at any one time is at the discretion of the Principal.

No Visits

Parents who send their children to I.S.P.S. must be prepared to accept that:

1.     Visits to the school by parents or family members during the year are not allowed.

2.     Children who are removed from the school during the academic year will not be allowed back for the rest of the year, and may not be re-admitted in future at the discretion of the school management.

The reason for this is that not all parents have the time, the money or the opportunity to come to Dharamshala and visit their children during the year. The disruption to school life and the injustice of a few children enjoying this privilege would adversely affect the morale of the school.

The End of the Year

Officially the school year ends after the Christmas Puja Seminar in Pune or Ganapatipule and it is hoped that parents who are able, will allow their children to attend it. Otherwise children may be collected from the school after December 15th. Removal before this will be considered as contravening section 2 of ‘No Visits’.

Medicines and health

For obvious reasons parents are asked not to give their children medicines of any kind to administer alone. All medicines must be handed over to the school nurse and details of health problems entered on the enrolment form.  In the rare cases where it is absolutely necessary for a child to carry his or her own medicines (serious asthma, for example) then the school authorities must be informed in writing.

Braces – Please indicate on the enrolment form if your child wears braces and include the documentation for their maintenance. The school is at present not making arrangements to issue new braces to children. This must be done by the parents before they come to school.

Glasses – Parents must indicate on the enrolment form if their child wears glasses and include any information for their maintenance and possible replacement. All children needing glasses should come to the school with at least three pairs. In the case of juniors, spare pairs will be kept by the dorm-in-charge.
